Change of plans- I'm still in Memphis! St. Louis trip didn't happen this weekend... I was trying to get to a high school reunion friday night, but after car drama and other "stuff" on friday afternoon I couldn't make it in time. Not my 10 year reunion just yet, this was a 10 year celebration of Webster Groves winning the basketball state championship. Alumni club invited the varsity basketball & cheerleading team of '96 in for a reunion party. My social Dad decided went ahead to the game anyways, and He enjoyed visiting with several highschool friends! This leads me down memory lane.. you are forwarned.
My highschool experience at Webster Groves- LOVED IT. It is actually 4 years I would do all over again. The WG community & heritage is awesome, and somehow I ended up with the best experience. I think it helped having my sis Rachel just one year ahead of me- She tested everything out first (classes, friends, parties, parents) then I just
hopped in and had a good time. My senior year was probably the best, but my junior year in '96 was definitely the most fun! Cheerleading and musicals is where I had the most "ciricular type of fun". Yes friends.. if not formerly known, I'm a cheerleader at heart. People either seem to love 'em or hate 'em- I think its different at every school. Love cheerleading as the sport, not as the blond slutty reputation (shh..that was just hockey cheerleaders)! Luckily my team was a group of smart, atheletic, and sociable girls, the nicest hard working squad you can think of. 14 seniors, 2 juniors (me & mel), football TurkeyDay win, basketball state championship- it was alot to have fun with! A year around sport at our school which it kept me super involved & handed me awesome friends. ..and some nice looking athletes! I never had to take highschool PE- thanks to cheer practice 4th hour. Football, basketball, soccer, competition - we should have been paid. Allright, a few pics of highschool hannah...

Mel & myself above as co-captains our senior year, had 14 new varsity cheerleaders to train. Thats why junior year was so fun!
Never a flyer, just a wanna-be. Chase on bottom at 5-ft-10, and myself 5-ft-9, makes for a 12-foot shoulder stand level with the trees.
Allright..who else has some? MaryDevan I know you do! Connie, I wouldn't be suprised either! Beck & Jen, I've seen great pom and guard pictures. Kelly I won't assume anything.. :) Matt, you were a male cheerleader right? ...Or was that -O- ?
Seeing these pics, new fitness goal will be to fit back into my uniform. No I don't have it on right now. But... GO STATESMEN!! GO BIG ORANGE!! GO WEBSTER!!

You would have loved watching the game Friday night as Webster beat Kirkwood. It sure brought back a lot of good memories. I remember when you started on the girl's J.V. softball team as a freshman. When you told me you were giving up softball for cheerleading, I was disapointed thinking you might have a shot as an athletic scholarship someday. But, in retrospect, the skills and leadership you gained as a cheerleader helped to make you who you are today. It truly was a blessing. We celebrated wonderful victories, like the state basketball championship; and, we joined in the lament of the loss of your two friends, Michelle and Jenny, who were killed in an auto accident that year. Seeing Michelle's picture again reminded me of the funerals. You used to keep a picture of Jenny in your bedroom. Often, when I came into your bedroom to wake you up, I would look at her picture and then look at you sleeping in bed, and I would cry. Those lessons in life and death molded and shaped all of us.
Thanks for the pictures and the memories! We are very proud of you!

Believe me, there are no pictures of me in a cheerleader uniform. That's not to say I didn't occasionally wear it around the house...but there are no pictures.
hannah! thanks for not "assuming"! the plight of being 5 feet tall and perky :) thanks for the trip down your memory lane!
hannah- there is ZERO chance I am posting pom pictures..... NO WAY...
but, I do have a homecoming queen picture I might share....

I quit cheering a long time ago. However, this may prompt me to put some band stuff on my blog. I am forever a band-geek!!!
