Christmas 05 -vs- 04

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Couldn't help comparing Christmas this year vs. last year. The scenery and memories are quite different, as well as a few other things...
-Home sweet home vs. University SaltLake Hospital
-St Louis Galleria vs. the Hospital gift shop
-Writing Christmas cards vs. scribbling notes, signing on vent
-Sleeping till 10am vs. Poke, Stick at 5am! labs
-Brownies, Apple Pie, and chocolate mousse vs. Morphine, Codeine, and Oxycontin
-Knightsbride Neighbors vs. the SaltLake prisoner just rooms away, 6th floor, armed guards!
-"Where's my running shoes?" vs. "Please pass the walker.."

-Hugs and horsing around vs. "don't touch" and "you can't make me laugh!"
-Christmas music vs. oxygen saturation alarm
-My own room & bathroom vs. not so private things...
-Seconds please! vs. What is this..?
-Picture posing vs. Hiding under the covers
-Kelleys, Glissons, Delashaws, Patricks, Kiburz, and Notters VS. the Mailman, lunch lady, housekeeping, and nurses
-and last, Full health in 2005 vs. fighting the heck for it 2004!
This is one of the first notes I wrote in the ICU. On the vent, wrists restrained so I wouldn't move, but I sure had something to say! (merry christmas?) Still not sure what.. but I remember thinking I was writing in perfectly clear sentences and was frustrated no one could understand me. Not sure what I was "fixinging" to do.. Happy to know my handwriting has since improved!
No wonder Christmas was soo good this year! There was a special blessing in last year, as I was cared for like a queen. But nothing like being at home with my family to celebrate this time.I think in this picture I'm smiling from a sugar high or flying on pain meds. faking it decently well...
Now I'm ready for Christmas all over again! Last year I was spoiled with a 2-1/2 month "break"; now I'm thinking I actually have to work over the holidays?! Maybe I can at least meet you friends for lunch this week... At least its just 5 days until another holiday!! New Year's plans?

That list of comparisons really makes you think about what was going on this time last year! I am SOOOO glad you're healthy and happy now!! ... Have a wonderful New Years! We have plans in St. Louie if you want to come home again! :) Love you!
We are up for hanging out any time this week!
A good list of blessings! Living life in gratitude and humor is the way to go! Now, if we could just get you to reconsider that skiing trip this coming spring??? :-)
Love,
DAD
Can you enlighten your grandmother regarding the "prisoner with armed guards" mentioned? Had not heard that story...
Love 'ya Han!
Mama Lou
yeah.. Mom mom & brother recently reminded me that there was a man on my recovery floor who was from prison. He was secured to his hospital bed and had posted guards at his door. I heard he was scary looking, luckily I wasn't up walking the halls yet to see for myself! Adam & Susie got a good look though... they just didn't tell me until later!
