Dec 8th...

Someone verrry special has a birthday this week! and since I'm the absolute worst at 1) remembering any birthday/date/special occasion, and 2) doing something about it, I thought I'd give a early birthday shout-out to my sweet mama.. and share just a few reasons why she's the Best Mom:

-> Susie-Servant-Stevens should be her name. She is always doing something for someone else, and lives to serve. Her kids, her moms, foster-children, friends, work - she is a dedicated person and serves with joy!

-> Optimistic and Hopeful attidude. Mom can always make lemonade out of a sour situation, and looks for the best in people and in life.

-> Susie-HomeMaker-Stevens is her other name. I love our cozy house, and she's awesome at creating a welcoming, inviting space. Always super clean, housework caught up, things in place, she never seems to get behind.. I really don't understand it, I just enjoy it!

-> I've forgotten to do anything for Mother's Day the last 3-4 years.. and she still loves me!

-> Energetic! My mom is like the energizer bunny and does not like to sit down. She is always doing something and being productive. There is not a lazy bone in her body. which puts me to shame!

-> Best bargain hunter and shopping partner. I cannot keep up with her.

-> She is fifty-something and can still shop in the junior's department! (of which i'm jealous..)

-> She is young-hearted and always up for a good time. Loves to try new things, go new places, explore, travel, people-watch -- I'd take her on vacation any day of the week!

-> Dining buddy! My mom is my favorite person to grocery shopping or out-to-eat with. She likes healthy (weird/different) foods too, and is a "share-the-plate" eater. love that! Our favorite food stores are Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, mmm.

-> People person. She's has great people skills, and can socialize with about anybody. Enjoys meeting new people and making others feel welcome.

-> Always there when I'm sick or banged up. From StLouis to Utah to Memphis and back, she brings a spoonful of sugar (and a sack of goodies) to make things better.
->She allows me to mess with/play with her hair. Its been happening since day 1, just 26 years ago..
-> Mom's an awesome teacher- I loved watching Miss Sue teach bible class to little kids..
->The woman can cook!!
-> She loves her family all the time. Even if we're not nice to her.
->Mom teaches me alot about giving and unconditional love.

LOVE YOU SWEET SUE... HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!

I enjoyed a "birthday" breakfast with your mom yesterday - I think you've covered every possible trait a person should have - and your mom has them all - just let me add that in her busy schedule with children at work and her own family and her church family - she still takes time out for a cup of coffee with a friend and she always is so much fun to just sit and chat with. I love your mom and she has done a great job raising some neat kids - love you - miss ann

Hannah- I couldn't agree more. Your mom is one of the nicest and coolest people that I know. I have learned a lot from her in the past few years. You are blessed to have her for a mother.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and your mom with us.

Great tribute to your mama! I, too, would AMEN everything you mentioned about your mom. She is always such a joy to be around and I enjoyed catching up with her while we were both in Michigan. She has sure had a "stressful" year this year with you 2 girls, so I wish her a particularly Happy Birthday and a blessed, healthy, stress-free year ahead! I have so many wonderful memories of the Stevens clan while we were growing up, and I certainly miss seeing you all! Love you guys!

I've enjoyed meeting your mom and staying at the "Stevens Hotel." She is always welcoming and kind to us. I hope you have a great birthday!

Hannah--for "most" of those characteristics, I say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." We all know you don't like to clean house, but you are daring, fun, loving, and a great people person. We enjoy having you around.

SuSu,

Happy Birthday! (Han, you did a great job attributing your blog to Mom.) Yes, I second Mom’s quality attributes! We sure are fortunate to have a Godly, loving Mom. Thank you Mom for all that you do!!! You deserve a year off (and some) for constantly giving your tireless energy to your family. How about if we plan a year vacation for you and Dad? (Post Ranch Inn, Canada, Seattle, Utah- Arches, Phoenix, the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, Maine, etc. . . and lastly Hawaii!) We hope you are having a fun, joy-filled birthday! We love you!!!

Hannah, Great tribute to your mom on her birthday. Yes, she is all you said she is, and I'm proud she's my sister. Aren't we all blessed that she is in our lives, serving our Lord. She's an inspiration. I'm proud of you, Rachel, and Adam too! Lots of love, Roberta
